Day workshop: Introduction to Wood Carving for Kids

A workshop suitable for children aged 8 years+ this is an introduction to handling, caring for and selecting carving tools, whittling, carving, green wood carving (using special knives), how to start a bowl or seat bottom or carving your name, and more. Each participant will go away with two items they have made (or started to make) and the basic knowledge of how to use sharp tools safely. Run by Low Impact Living Initiative (LILI) which offers publications, free factsheets, a huge database and forum, products, services and courses in everything from co-operatives to wildfood camping. In Sheffield, courses are often held at the Woodland Discovery Centre, an educational facility in the largest ancient woodland in South Yorkshire. Full course details are on the LILI website.
