Abundance Week

Abundance is a project to harvest local fruit left because people do not notice them, or cannot harvest them. Join them for over a week of Abundance activities to mark the end of the 2013 harvest season. All events are free unless otherwise stated. Heres what is planned so far:All Week: Abundance - an exhibition, The Old Junior School, South View Rd, Sharrow, S7 1DB Artworks on the Abundance theme, by volunteers, artists and creatives (Open even launch Friday 22nd November, 7:30-10pm, film showings, refreshments and live music including a possible rendition of The Abundance Song!)Saturday 23rd, early afternoon: Just Natural Preserves Stall and mince pie giveaway, Just Natural Greengrocers and surrounds, Crookes. Locally sourced and produced chutneys and mincemeat. Get down in search of a mince pie if you know whats good for you!Sunday 24th, 1-4pm: Fruit Harvest, venue to be confirmed.Tuesday 26th, 6-10pm: Chutney-making Session, St Mary's Church Community Cafe, Bramall Lane, S2 4QZ A lovely informal way to learn and make chutney and meet fellow volunteers. Everyone gets to take a jar of produce home with them. Please bring your own favourite apron/knife if you like and some veggie/vegan food to share.Wednesday 27th, 2-3:30pm: Lowe's Garden Blitz, gathering on this open-to-the-public garden for a quick winter clean-up and sort-out on Wednesday afternoon, pruning and maintenance and maybe even planting something. Please bring work boots and all-weather clothing, gloves, tools and tea provided!Thursday 28th, 11am-3pm: Apple pressing for cider, Old Junior School, South View Rd, S7 1DB. It's time to make cider! For one day only we'll have use of an electric apple mill, which means extremely efficient apple juicing and the perfect opportunity to make cider for the Winter. People are also encouraged to bring any fruit they have to be pressed and are welcome to take juice home with them. BYOC (bring your own container!).Friday 29th, 5-8pm: Chutney Making Session, Spires Community Centre, Arbourthorne. Sunday 1st December, 7:30-11pm: Abundance HOME-GROWN Ceilidh, Broomhall Centre, Broomspring Lane. Join us for our rip-roaring end of season finale! A fantastic night for everyone including lots of dancing (of course), a stonking raffle, bar, live music, bring and share meal and plenty more.
