SUCCESS !! Railway station bridge proposal rejected
Nov 2009
The Sheffield Planning Board has unanimously thrown out the proposal by East Midlands Trains (EMT) to install barriers at Sheffield station, following a massive number of objections. Furthermore, the chairperson, Councillor Tim Rippon, advised EMT that they shouldn't bother appealing against this decision.
It was only listed building status that gave the council decision-making power because central government rules and unaccoutable companies run our railways, following privatisation.
Cities have to fight to support public transport passengers, cyclists, and access for local people, pedestrians and people with disabities, not just car drivers.
We should have access to public spaces, which EMT does not own. This victory is a real credit to all those who worked hard to fight this. For full details see Residents Against Station Closure website
