Palestine Solidarity Campaign objects to "anti-Semitism" vote
October 2019
Sheffield Palestine Solidarity Campaign (SPSC) have objected to Sheffield City Council adopting the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) definition of anti-Semitism. They state that although the actual definition is OK, some of its examples of anti-Semitism are not. Believing or saying that Israel is a racist state comes under this. Sadly Israel gives only second-class citizenship (and many other oppressions) to non-Jews, surely an example of racism.
The Council could now, in theory, say that solidarity with the Palestinians is somehow anti-Semitic, and start to cancel venues and speakers. The SPSC comments during the Council debate in October are online here (from 59:44 mins into the video). There is a full, useful explanation at the link below.
