Sheffield on the Move meeting: Reducing Car Dependency

Sheffield on the Move is a forum for local people's views, ideas, suggestions and experiences of transport and congestion in the city. It is made up of representatives of transport organisations and the public. NOTE this is not an open door meeting, but you can nominate yourself or someone else to join the forum by filling in a form or by calling Sheff 2053303.For this meeting, Sheffield on the Move is working with Action for Involvement to deliver a workshop on the theme Reducing Car Dependency in Sheffield.

• Introduction by Cllr Ian Auckland, Cabinet member for Transport
• Guest speaker: Prof Lenny Koh from University of Sheffield looking at international examples of cities that have successfully reduced car use
• Q & A with panel including Richard Hebditch from the Campaign for Better Transport
• Workshops with suggested themes such as What can be done about public transport? Community Transport: plugging the gaps in mainstream transport? Walking back to happiness - why not walk it? How can cycling become "mainstream"? Smarter car use: reducing single occupancy private car journeys one by one? Reducing car use: is it really necessary?

It is intended that this event will play an important part in informing any future bid to the Government's Local Sustainable Transport Fund.
